A Smart Phone For Your Tween?

One of the most common questions parents ask me is what to look for in a phone for their child, who is most often in primary school or first-year high school

Has your child been nagging you for a smartphone? They tell you that all of their friends have one and feel left out. You're hesitant to give in, but you know that you'll eventually have to decide.

You start to research different options and read reviews online, but you're still unsure what to do. You're worried about the potential risks and dangers of giving your child internet and social media access. You wonder if they're ready for the responsibility of having a smartphone.

Some things to consider are safety, the maturity of the child and what you, as their parent or guardian, need to know about helping them have a safe and balanced experience. The video below from Leonie Smith at “Digital Families Counselling” should give you some straightforward tips and guidelines.
